History

The Institute of Professional Development and Retraining (IPDR) was founded on November 27, 1989 on the basis of three University units: the Professional Development Faculty for University Lecturers, the Professional Development Faculty for Staff Members of the Ministry of Finance and the Preparatory Courses. In 2003 it was renamed into the Institute of Postgraduate Education of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv. The directors of the Institute were Roman Mokryk (1989-92) and Mykhailo Krupka (1993-2003). Since 2003 it’s been headed by Yuriy Zanko.

Bachelor’s degree in higher education after another specialty at the Center for Postgraduate Education is carried out in accordance with the curricula and programs approved by core departments and specialized Academic Boards of the University. Particular attention is paid to the systematic updating and improvement of curricula. The teaching process is provided by professors of the University and in some cases by leading lecturers of other Lviv higher educational institutions, practitioners and foreign professors. In order to improve the quality of educational process the Institute is equipped with a modern IT lab.

The Institute of Postgraduate Education and Pre-university Training was established in 2012 through merging two University units: the Institute of Postgraduate Education and the Faculty of Pre-university Training. The Institute consists of seven centers:

the Postgraduate Education Centre,

the International Education Centre,

the Centre for Pre-university Training and Certification,

the Centre for Continuing Education,

the Centre for Linguistic Expertise,

the Centre for Legal Expertise and

the Centre for Practical Training for Advocacy.

Each of these centers occupies a niche in modern adult education and in-university undergraduate training.

Among our alumni are university professors, staff members of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Justice, other ministries and agencies, the Security Service of Ukraine, state financial and banking institutions, industrial enterprises, tax administrations and inspections, audit offices, stock exchanges, business structures,  customs and border services, local and regional authorities, journalists, prominent politicians and members of the Parliament.
